Victorian 14k Gold
Lily of the Valley Taille D'eparne Enamel
Bracelet Delicate enamel Lily
of the Valley flowers are forever preserved on
this superb 14k Victorian bracelet. Intricate
hand chased patterns provide a rich background to
the flowers. The decoration is encompasses the
entire bracelet. According to the 1850s book
"The Floral Offering", the Lily of the
Valley represents Modesty. A splendid quote from
the book regarding the flower "Its snowy
hues and general delicacy of appearance excite
the emotion of kindred nature to those we
experience in the company of one whose heart is
free from guile, and whose manners are gentle and
unpretending". Personally and beautifully
engraved with three names on interior. Two appear
to be original to the bracelet along with the
date December 25th, 1869. The third name is a
later addition and is dated March 5th, 1939.

Japanese Meiji Era
Hallmarked Silver Menuki Pin
A bamboo Menuki, originally from a Samurai sword,
found new life on this brooch created during the
Meiji Era (1868-1912). These adornments were
attached to the hilt of each Samurai sword. The
purpose was to prevent the hand from slipping.
Menuki are often animals but the sword makers
used a variety of subjects. In 1876, Japan banned
Samurai from wearing of swords. The masterful
metalwork of the sword makers did not go to waste
and was often repurposed into jewelry. This
Menuki pin is a wonderful example and unusual
because of the silver hallmark, jungin. This mark
was primarily used during the Meiji period.
